Was searching for contracts and came across this.. Not trying to be

And developers aren't permitted to move into marketing, having a more
thorough understanding of the use of the product than some wretched clerk?

Under the circumstances (Delphi's invisibility in the market) I don't think
giving a marketing neophyte his big break is particularly wise...

Doesn't mean that a Delphi veteran of some sort who is also a marketing
veteran wouldn't be best.... That's what we need somebody who understands
Delphi from the inside out *and* really understands marketing; and, more
importantly, how to market *delphi* as a unique toolset.

Add "and understands VB developers" to the list.

I continue to believe that's a huge opportunity laying around ready to be
tapped. MS has been spectacularly unsucessful at it with VB.Net, dispite
their marketeers' hype.

Picking up even a small amount of that market could make somebody's day.

Ahem... It occured to me that I should be more explicit (though you'd think
that wasn't necessary).

When I say "understands VB" I mean VB (and Classic VB developers), not
VFred. They aren't the same.

The best way to demonstrate marketing ability would be to market oneself
into the interview.

I gotta disagree on this one. We need a marketing pro. Delphi really needs
it. Bad. The Delphi Understanding is key, too; but the market position of
Delphi is to precarious to leave to a passionate amateur.

A market pro with no feel for Delphi won't work either, I feel.

Hi, Dennis,

I agree. I was just pointing out that if there is a good marketer who
follows this forum, he could make his case by demonstrating his (or her)
talents directly. Arm waving will not be helpful.

IIRC, Borland used to be better at it. Remember back in the pre-Windows
days? If you bought C++ you got a discount on Turbo Pascal, etc. They
usually offered cross product line discounts. The other details have faded
but I remember reaching that conclusion.

Are you going to the users' group meeting this week?

Kirk

Well, they had the whole Borland Connections program which is how I got a
pre-release copy of Delphi delivered right to my door sometime around
November, 1994.

Now, that's when dropping a tDatasource, tDataset and tDbGrid on a form was
cool....

Well Dennis is already busy on the 1st so we are going to move
it back to 8th. I like this because everyone should be back
from vacation. I still haven't heard back from John K about
coming in October to do a full demo of ECO. Hope he sees this
and checks his travel schedule. We could stand with another
visit in February to see D9 (HINT, HINT Smile ).

Jeez, Tom, the website still says the meeting is tomorrow night. I'm glad I
wasn't planning to attend.

This might have been the second time I came to a non-meeting based on the
webpage.
