After rebuilding one of my Windows boxes and reinstalling Delphi
I failed registration because it hit the registration limit (this
isn't the first time the PC has been rebuilt). While this doesn't
inhibit using the product I still like to keep things tidy so I
went to borland.com.au and clicked on the Contact Us item and
sent a note, which I guess went to Sales.

At any rate I still got a reply giving me the tech support
number, which I called, and had the problem solved in a few
minutes.

Hi Oz

I had the same experience. My limit had been reached due to numerous
Windows reinstallations. There is a phone number on the registration form,
so when if failed to register via email I clicked "Back" and phoned the
number instead. It was reset immediately, so only slowed me down by about 5
minutes.

How is that a positive thing? Personally, I hate apps that limit the number
of installs (thank you microsoft for starting such an annoying trend) or
force you to register online to "unlock" the bloody thing. The worst is when
you don't have an internet connection handy. I understand why Borland does
it that way now, but that doesn't mean it's a good thing...

Wow. So you bought some software legally and were able to use it too. That's
amazing.
Just shows you how bad things have got.

At least he bought the software legally, so perhaps things are not so bad after all <g>

I think the actual number of Delphi programmers is perhaps double the
350,000 number I have read about. They're hard to count, because half
of them are using the ever-so-convenient cracked counterpart. You do
not have to worry about Internet registration, or limited number of
installs, etc., etc.

I would never trust my code to a cracked product, but the demand for
such expresses that people hate these mandated internet registrations,
limited installs, and the jacked up price.

Oh well, just keep thinking Fortune 500 and what their requirements are.
Perhaps it is time for all of us to switch to cute little dinky dongles.

They say it is hardware dependend. Then it may be CPU-ID only based because:
- changing the OS from 2000 to XP dont make any difference
- works for Administrator and my user account
- works in an XP installation within a VMWare VM

Yes,

and maybe they mean that it check the hardware in the same manner WinXp do, to be sure it's re-installed on the same computer.
