|
|
Let me set the scene, I am a fairly experienced IT user, with some
expereince in Access, MySQL and simillar. However, I've just been
asked to write a report for a database programme written using (i
think) a DOS version of Borland. (This may be the wrong palce to ask
the question but I have no idea where to begin with Borland stuff)
This archiac piece of technology still runs and is used all the time,
but the reports it produces are next to useless. The users put loads
of data in that they aren't getting out the other end... but is
definately being stored. It has no 'custom' report so the current
process is to manually trawl the records for the data! I've been set
the task of trying to extract the data...
I have copied out the main data file which is called work.dat
When I view the file in a text editor it looks like a mess but has some
readable text, including at least some of the data I want. But its not
anything like I expected it would be, which was like a csv file or
something. It appears much more like a proper database file.
I don't have access to Borland Programming software in any shape /
form. But do have access to windows and linux machines with most of
the standard apps.
What's the best way to try and get the data out into something more
readable like an excel sheet or csv file?
Any thoughts appreciated. |

As I say - Boreland is completely new to me.! However, I've just tried
opening it in Access as a Paradox Table and it says NO!
