Hi all,

I'm about to publish a third party component set for Delphi and BCB. In
order to test it correctly with all the versions of Delphi/BCB that I
support, I would like to know if there's anywhere I could get a hold of
these old versions, or at least some evaluation versions.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Jonathan Neve.

Isn't there even a place where I could download previous evaluation
versions? I'm not intending to use these product for any actual
development, just for testing.

Thanks!

Actually, I just remembered... I _do_ have an evaluation version of
Delphi 6, but I couldn't install it because it wanted me to register,
but the link on the Borland site was broken. Does anyone know if there's
a work-around?

Thanks!

Note that evaluation versions may be slightly different. Especially the
..bpl and .dcu formats are not the same (to prevent people from using such
files generated by these version in a commercial product, I guess).

Oh really? I didn't know that. I guess there's little point persuing
that route then... I guess I'll have to try ebay...

Ok, thanks for your help!

Hi Nick,

What you propose may solve the problem if the person (company) is
developing some sort of components for Delphi.

The real life problem arises when the company using for example Delphi 7
as a main development tool has a need to hire few more programmers
and give them tool (i.e. Delphi 7) they are supposed to use.

Notice, that converting an application to the newest version of Delphi
is not always a reasonable option. Buying Delphi from secondary sources
like ebay when you don't really know the status of what you are buying
is (IMHO) not a serious proposal (choice) Borland is giving to its clients.

My opinion is that there should be some way left for the clients to buy
"outdated" software licenses directly from Borland or from its resellers.

What are your thoughts ?

Regards,
Zenon

You'd want to test with the full version anyway. The Delphi trial is a
different build that is not the same as the purchased version.

My thoughts are two:

1. The point you made is totally different from what was asked. ;-)

2. I'm in complete agreement about the old licenses. They ought to be
for sale.

I was thinking of that, and I think it would definitely be a good idea.
However, from looking at the application form, it seemed that I would
need to already be commercialising the product. Is that right?
Currently, I haven't started selling it yet (though I'm about to), do
you think it would be possible to become a BTP anyway?

Thanks!
Jonathan Neve.
