I say a comment on this forum not so long ago implying the Borland were
uninterested in the old scktsrvr technology.

Since then I have been wondering what the new technology is that allows
me to download data, work on it off line, then upload the results.

Anybody have any ideas?

I don't know, but it reminds me I have been wanting to ask a question.

Any change Datasnap/MIDAS will get worked on more when NewCo has
control? I think it is a *GREAT* tech and I hate to see it just sitting
there. At least add midas.dll source to the Delphi source.

AFAIK, Datasnap is still the preferred method, esp for Win32. Can you post
the original comment you saw? Was it from someone at Borland?

Datasnap and SCKTSRVR.EXE are both updated in D2006.

I'm totally with you Joe. This is one area that I think DevCo should
really focus on to provide more reasons for existing users to upgrade.

DataSnap is awesome in spite of its quirks.

There are several bugs out there that I'd like to see fixed (my meager
5 votes are already accounted for) but I would also love to see more
innovations in the "get more done with less code" department that
Borland used to be so good at.

It wouldn't hurt to have the source for MIDAS.DLL - although we are not
having any major pains with it as it is.

Greate! It only took Borland from D5 - D10 (5 Major Versions) to get a
working version of ScktSrvr. I hope that they have fixed some of the WORST
bugs with ScktSrvr.

- Multi-processor
- Access Violations
- Tray Icon does not disappear
- etc.
