I have an interesting puzzle but I'm not 100% sure where to ask the
question: Does anybody know where Windows hides the Outlook Express
passwords?
I looked in the registry and found this.
Name: POP3 Password2
Type: REG_BINARY
Data:
00000000 01 02 70 00 6f 00 70 00 - 2e 00 62 00 6f 00 67 00
...p.o.p...b.o.g.
00000010 75 00 73 00 2e 00 63 00 - 6f 00 6d 00 35 00 35 00
u.s...c.o.m.5.5.
00000020 38 00 34 00 35 00 45 00 - 30 00 30 00 00 00 8.4.5.E.0.0...
I tried to interpret it as char but then found it's widechar (pretty obvious
now - just look at the 00s). Translating it does not produce the password of
"bbb" that I set. Instead, it produces: ?pop.bogus.com55845E00.
Interestingly, the number part doesn't change when the password changes so
it's obviously a pointer but a pointer to what? Can anybody help?
