I would like to confirm that an email address is valid and working before I store it in our database. Some SMTP email server support the VRFY command to check if an email address is valid for his own domain. Fortunately, most servers disable this checking in a attemp to make spammer's life difficult. So if you want to know if an email address is valid, just email a message and check for any error message returned. If you don't get an error, it doesn't mean the address is invalid. The best way to confirm an email address validity, is to send an email asking the user to reply explicitely to your email. -- Contribute to the SSL Effort.
