|
|
I subscribe to the fastcodeproject group on Yahoo. I get notified of
various polls. I would like to recommend that when a poll is submitted
that it give a little background with the poll. ie: Proponents for x
say... Opponents say... This could encourage more informed votes and can
be a recap of discussions buried in the threads here.
As an example, take a question like this (purely made up for purpose of
demostation):
----
Who should be allowed to vote in fastcodeproject polls on Yahoo?
a) Anyone that signs up as a member to the Yahoo group.
b) Anyone who is a member and has made a contribution of time and effort
to the project.
Proponents: The fastcode project is aways promoting community and
encouraging others to help. As such, anyone who takes the time to sign up
for the group in Yahoo should be allowed to vote.
Oponents: There are only a few people that actively participate in
maintaining the fastcodeproject and making it a success. Polls can affect
how points are awarded affecting the outcome of awarded prizes or it can
unneccessarily affect the free time spent by those who do contribute in
meeting requirements set forth in a poll. Only those who contribute to the
project should be allowed to vote.
----
I think you can see how adding the additional information would help keep
anyone who votes on track with the purpose of the vote and allow them to
make a more informed decision. There may be many people that get the poll
notifications by email but don't read the discussions here to know where
whoever submitted the poll is coming from.
The current polls have 5 choices instead of two. In this case it could be
written something like...
Proponents: Penalties should be applied for size due to . . . . and
recommend a penalty between 10 to 20 with 20 as the favored penalty.
Opponents: With memory and storage so cheap size doesn't matter, speed
does. . . . Opponents of a penalty reccommend <10 and favors a zero
penalty.

Hi John E. Wilfong
I basically agree with you.
The reason I have not done it is that it takes a long time to write a proper
poll text. There also is the danger that I will unintentional color the pro
and con text with my own personal view.
I will consider doing it for coming polls - at least for the "bigger" ones.
Best regards
