This message (posted to Usenet via news.freeserve.net) will not appear on the
Borland server. If you have ever wondered why you get few replies, or none at
all, this is because only messages posted directly to the Borland server will
appear on it.

Configure your newsreader to use the "newsgroups.borland.com"
server and see this Borland FAQ -
http://info.borland.com/newsgroups/genl_faqs.html

As of September 2002 Borland have had no knowledge or
awareness of, nor any evident interest in, these two groups:
borland.public.cppbuilder.winapi
borland.public.cppbuilder.language

They were re-styled as:
borland.public.cppbuilder.nativeapi
borland.public.cppbuilder.language.cpp

A number of other groups were also re-styled at the same time. The originals
are now just phantoms, maintained for no particularly good reason, in Usenet.
It is no longer justifiable to relate these phantom groups to Borland. Google
eventually recognised the new groups but Usenet generally seems blissfully
unaware of them.

But many of us can only reach the 'newsgroups' via the web browser,
since we are sitting behind a firewall at our job.

To quote that Borland FAQ:

---
"When I try to connect to the Borland news server, I get an error that says
there is no DNS entry for newsgroups.borland.com. Why?

It sounds like you may be behind a corporate firewall that has access blocked
on port 119, the NNTP port. You will need to talk to your network
administrator about opening your firewall on port 119."
---

If you are not able to get any useful response from your admin. it seems like
you are stymied. But anyway the winapi group is (at Borland) no longer
active. Google however is still very useful for its archive and if you do a
search in Google Groups you will find that many issues have been been covered
already.
