Does the new BDS come on CD, or DVD? More than one disc? Thanks.

Depends on what SKU you order for exact counts.
My Architect box came with:
4 Compact Discs (per the numbering), BDS itself is on Disks 1 - 3.
Disk 4 is things like Samples, Remote Debuggging, etc. The install never
prompts for Disk 4. Actually, I chose not to install Component 1, so it
may be on there too.
1 Partner DVD
2 StarTeam Compact Discs
1 MS SQL Server 2000 Developer release A Compact Disc

From reading other posts, it appears to come on 3 CDs with a DVD
containing the third-party stuff.

Ahhh, partner up with some one like Lite-On or Plexstor. Offer BDS and include a DVD reader for a
nominal charge!
Microsoft started doing that early. Back in another time... you could get a CD-ROM drive for only
$1200 when purchasing Microsoft C.

We've discussed this for years. Even giving away a DVD reader is not a
solution for too large a portion of our customers, based on current
feedback.

Yeah well, I'm still cross you abandoned diskettes, and now you even want
me to install a DVD player? <vbg>

Actually, I can't imagine a programmer who doesn't at least have one
machine with a DVD player nowadays. We are not talking about normal
customers of shrinkwrap software, we are talking about people who write
software.
Or you could have both in the same box: 1 DVD and x CDs, containing the
same, but the DVD being more convenient: no one has to play the DJ.

Well, I think you already do- not that I have a problem with it. Delphi
"installation requirements" (which are the "terms" here) have changed
significantly over the years (memory, disk space, OS, CPU). And, was it
originally available on floppy?
Anyway, you're already shipping dual-media packages: Putting a second copy
of the install on Delphi install set on the DVD would help you fill it up...

Borl: We've got a great new version of Delphi out!
Customer: cool.
Borl: But, you'll have to upgrade from Win95 to XP
Customer: no problem!
Borl: ...and, you really ought to rewrite all your software to run under
..NET
Customer: Looking forward to it - it'll help me justify my budget for next
year!
Borl: And replace all those ageing 486's with state-of-the art processors
packed with memory for optimal performance
Customer: Easy - we'll just swap the R&D machines with Marketing
Borl:... and you'll need one $20 DVD drive on your site to deploy the
software.
Customer: Oh bummer.....
