Please try to understand that none of this is going to happen.
Generics will in the NET2, so it won't make into D9. The IDE will the
same as in D8, so it's never going be native Win32 anymore. It will be
slower. But hopefully they have had many of the bugs fixed and added
some much needed speed.

Bad! Then I must focus on Delphi 10. ((

The D8 IDE is a mainly native Win32 app. And AFAIK, D9 will be both Win32
and .NET.

That's the impression I got too regarding the IDE. If that's really the
case, then it's going to be a huge turn off for me. I want my IDE to *fast*.
Not to mention I wasn't too impressed with that of D8... then again, I
haven't played with a lot, so maybe I should... My point on speed, though,
remains...

Indeed. Whoever decided that slowing things down was an improvement needs to
be shot. I don't care how elegant or structured something is under the hood.
It's the developer's responsibility to make it work. I just care about the
performance. If a million developers are going to use that IDE, a second
lost each usage is a million seconds available for developing the IDE and if
it needs to be rewritten a couple of times or if it takes longer to write or
debug, so be it. I am especially sick of the developer tool developers
cutting corners for their own convenience, or worse yet, jumping on the
latest fad, because the effect compounds down the line and results in
inferior products all over.

Really? I thought that it was mostly written in some NET language. Well,
at least the MS designer and some other parts are made with NET.
Anyway, hopefully there's room for optimization and I believe that it
will happen.

Yes, obviously the parts that must be .NET are .NET. <g>

What's the point in writing the IDE in .NET, it's not going to be portable
and all we get is a slower and worse IDE that D7. I think they should write
it in Win32.
Borland has done a great job at producing IDE for developers so let's not
spoil it by going backwards. And while I'm at it, the help on D7 is
definitely a step backwards.

FWIW I find the D8 IDE to be more responsive than VS.NET 2003.

The C#Builder and D8 IDes are in Win32, mainly. I doubt they'll change
that, if it is not necessary.
