Apparently, I don't. But then again, I might. If I had a clue
what ECDL was...
Educational CompSci Deficiency Laziness? - perhaps - I've never
taken a comp sci course in my life.

Pretty close. European Computer Driving Licence. As it was pioneered
(I believe) by the British Computer Society and is currently pedalled
by every 3rd rate organisation in the land - the same organisations
that usually leap on cheapo scam schemes, I doubt very much that the
certificate will even make decent toilet paper.

Never heard of this before (I am in Germany). The title to me sounds
like something people would get for beeing in some kind of training
course for unemployed. If you apply for a programming job it might give
a bad picture (since it is propably very basic).

It's Word and Excel and getting the Windows Screensaver configured
Oh, btw, did I mention it's a scam?
What's your other option?
Kind regards.

You can't have looked very hard! Syllabus, practice tests and other
blurb at

This isn't intended for programmers - it's a basic qualification for
end users. Basic stuff like managing files, word processing,
spreadsheets, simple database etc.
I'd expect programmer qualifications to be something like a computing
degree, not an end user qualification like ECDL.

Exactly. I've been "offered" this course with heavy threats about worse
alternatives. I could do all their 7 tests in half an afternoon! And it's
something I'd never ever put on a resumé.

I was offered at my last job to take the ECDL as a company-wide computer
literacy effort. I declined. Any employer that reads "ECDL" in a resume for
any semi-skilled computer profession would kill himself with laughter.
Probably.
Then there's pointy-haired bosses. Can't answer for them.

I was in a similar situation and was "offered" the same thing. As an unemployed programmer, living in North Wales, I was told to choose between ECDL or sitting in a boring little room for 4 hours a week. The people who ran that thought 6 day old newspapers, free tea and out-dated computers were fantastic. Well I can honestly say that I can do far more job hunting from my own sofa than from there. In the end, just to get off their miserable scheme, I had to sign off and be totally without money for 6 weeks and then to come back and lie that I'd been working. It's really hard in North Wales, when there's no work around.
