Oh no, not one of those totally unfounded nonsense threads again,
depicting the doom of Borland end/or Delphi.
I wonder what makes people start them?

Not *THIS* topic again. Someone flots this argument once every few
months, and they've been doing so for *years*. I remember reading some
similar posts at least 6 years ago, and it hasn't happened yet.

Was that one of those replies that try very hard to be funny and get the
word "dentist" in there at the same time?

This topic even predates Delphi, people have been predicting the demise of
Borland since at least the start of the '90s (about the time they bought
Ashton-Tate or earlier).
So let's see, they have managed to prove the doomsayers wrong consistently
for at least 12 years now that I'm aware of. During that time they were not
supposed to survive:
- the change from DOS to Windows,
- the "Cashectomy" Lotus tried to give them
- the advent of VC++,
- the advent of VB,
- the shift from 16 to 32 bit Windows,
- the advent of COM,
- the loss of Anders H.
- the mismanagment of Yokum (the only one that actually came close)
- the advent of Java
.... and now of course they aren't supposed to survive the advent of .Net or
C#.
But, like all alleged psychics, they will continue predicting just in case
one day it comes true, hoping they will get to say "told ya so" conveniently
forgetting all the times and years they were wrong.

That was one of the most wildly incorrect predictions of the bunch. Java has
actually saved Borland.

I know of many companies who dual deploy server applications using both.

Yeah, but such rumours pop up regularly, and already since many, many
years. I think that rumour was dealt with already.
