Just wanted to draw your attention to the fact that: using the format "Re:
xxxxx " as a subject line when replying, may be useful on mailing lists,

where there is no graphical representation of the flow of discussion. Same
is true for some web based forums.

However, such a reply syntax is very uninformative. Moreover its not
necessary when using most common news readers that graphically lay out the

discussion flow. Wouldn't it be better if we all try to make the subject
line more meaningful, thus contributing to discussion flow readability?

I think it should be part of the ng guidelines that when the topic
disdcussed in a thread changes, people adjust the subject line accordingly.
I'm with you on this.

Lets make this thread a study case ;-)

Just thinking aloud, that's all…

I find I hardly ever look at them, what would make it much easier for
me would be line wrapping so that I don't have to scroll from side to
side to read a post.

Funny, I think wrapping messages at 80 characters is silly and totally
unnecessary. It is a throwback to the old days when Unix newsreaders were too
retarded to be able to handle text themselves.

Just curious: Your newsreader doesn't seem to supply User-Agent and/or
X-Newsreader headers. Is it one of your own?

Thunderbird & Mozilla can handle line wrapping automatically, no need
for scrolling whatever the size of your message viewing window.

Most newsreaders add this anyway, and sometimes, if the flow is broken
(followup to different group, cancelled message, etc.), it is a useful
indication that something is missing. It may be uninformative, but it
doesn't hurt either.

Judging from the many test posts in .test, it would not surprise me. <g>

My newsreader (Mozilla 4.8, yes I know it's old...) can't open any of
his messages.

I'm with Marc. You don't know what interface your reader is using, and
it's still common courtesy to make the message readable. At work, I
have no newsreader access, and I can only get to these groups via a
browser-based interface. Neither delphi.newswhat.com nor
newsgroups.borland.com do automatic word wrapping, so I skip over a lot
of messages just because it's too tedious doing all the horizontal
scrolling.

Just playing around with Indy. Tyring to figure out a couple of things about NNTP behavior. IMHO, what I am putting together could be a productivity booster for Borland Group members; but then again - I may be wrong.

Be it as it may, It would be an educating experience to see your comments about it. I hope to finish by early next week.
