As I understand, QC is a private initiative and Borland tolerates it rather than takes it seriously.
If you want bugs to be fixed, I'm afraid you have to pay Borland for it, or hope that they are fixed in the next version of Delphi.

Is there a proper way to notify Borland of the bug then rather than using QC
which it sounds like is a waste of time? Since I reported the bug in QC
update packs for D6 and D7 have been released. I know that the bug was not
fixed in the D6 pack so I guess the "hope that they are fixed in the next
version of Delphi" part needs work.

I am not aware of any bug-reporting scheme used by Borland.

You correctly submitted it to Quality Central.

You know that's not true. So why even claim so?

Quality Central is the proper way to report bugs.

Your understanding is wrong. QC is Borland's official change request
system. Although some of the clients are in beta, the server itself is
out of beta and is official.

Using QC, so you're on the right track already.

Quote:
I found a
bug in TAutoIntfObject over a year ago. At that time I posted some
questions in the newsgroup and the little feedback I received seemed
to agree with my belief that I had found a bug. I submitted the bug
to QualityCentral in Oct 16, 2002 (#2670) and there it has sat. The
bug exists in D5 and D7. I'm also a little confused about the voting
mechanism? Is the voting used to develop a priority in which bugs get
fixed?

It is one input. It's not the only one. Borland wants to know which
bugs/features are important to people, but they may decide to implement
or not implement a request based on other factors.

Quote:
If I'm the only person who votes for my bug does that mean
that it will never get fixed?

No. OTOH lots of votes may improve the chances.

Followups set.

Because it is true:
BugCentral is NOT the Borland bug system, neither is it monitored by Borland employees but by Borland CUSTOMERS. Borland insists on
installing an EXE on your system that does web i/o, so just about no serious company will use it anyway. Imagine the programmer at a
bank who wants to report a bug.

Programmer to security-fixated manager: "I would like to install this EXE"..
Manager: "Why?"
Programmer: "To report a bug to, eh..."
Manager: "To whom?"
Programmer: "Eh, to fellow Delphi programmers.. but the bug might end up at Borland if they agree,
Borland has specially selected them!"

Really, when do you guys grow out of your arrogance?

From http://bdn.borland.com/article/0,1410,27815,00.html
1.. A second-tier group of people selected by Borland (probably starting with TeamB members who are interested) will be able to
verify the reported bugs. This will be done on a volunteer basis.
2.. When the bug has been verified, this group can then migrate the bug report to the "official" bug database where the bug will
be assigned an official bug tracking number.

That's correct. It's called Quality Central.

Sure it is.

Huh? No, you're the one that installs the EXE if you want to.

You can also use the webclient or the Java client.

What arrogance?

This is also wrong. There are many QC sysops who are Borland
employees.

You're 0 for 3 in this thread, Frank.

I've added the workaround to QC. It basically involves making a complete
copy of TAutoIntfObject in your own module, changing the name and adding the
line FDispIID := DispIntf; to the constructor. It has to be done this way
because FDispIID is declared as private and the property is read only.

Can you submit this as a workaround for the problem on the QC Report.

Shouldn't QC provide some sort of feedback to indicate the disposition of
the bug? Without such, I feel like the system is detached from Borland. With
such feedback, even if Borland was not going to fix the bug either because
they felt a sufficient workaround existed or that it was not really a bug,
at least I would know. As it is now, I have not idea if anyone even looked
at it.

That simple huh? Has it been sitting in limbo for the past year because I
failed to provide a workaround?
