I am new to using Rave in Delphi 7.0. For some reason, the 'Reports'
tab has disappeared and I don't know how to get it back. I have tried
removing and adding back the BPL but it didn't help. I deleted the
components from the form and added them back. I deleted the Rave5.ini
file. What else can I try?

Any help would be appreciated.

Please include both your Rave product (BE or BEX) and version number (check the Rave Help About). Please do this in EACH future support message. It helps us provide a better support answer.

Please look at http://www.nevrona.com/Default.aspx?tabid=178 for information about updating Rave. At this link, you will also find many references, articles and general information about using Rave. Be sure to look at the bottom part of that page as it applies to all Rave users. If you have not updated to Rave BE 5.0.8, then look at the above link on the latest information we have on where Borland keeps this update.

First, make sure you have updated to Rave BE 5.0.8 - see above link. Having one of the "tabs" disappear is not a normal problem - old or new versions. You have done one thing that I would have suggested - delete or rename the Rave INI file. The only other thing I can think of is to re-install the 5.0.8 update - make sure that Delphi and Rave are not running.

I am using the latest 5.0.8 update. My Delphi 7 is also set up with the
latest patches.

I guess I will have to try a removal/reinstall of the product. I know
the reports tab was there as I was trying to figure out how to add a
band to a new report. I am very familiar with QuickReports, which works
very differently from Rave. I don't know exactly what I did but the
next thing I knew, the Reports tab was completely gone, which is kind of
disconcerting. Closing Delphi, closing the report and deleting the .ini
file did not restore it. Is there any point to deleting the Delphi .DSK
file? I occasionally had to do that when the Delphi 5 IDE wouldn't load
properly.

Thanks,

I talked to one of the developers and he only had the same suggestions that I gave you yesterday. First, he was surprised that you had "lost" a tab. He was even more surprised that neither deleting the INI or re-installing the 5.0.8 update did not fix it. We have had several reports of people that had "lost" their treeview (right panel), but that is fixed simply by deleting the INI in early releases of Rave. The problem that caused the treeview issue was fixed early in the Rave 5 development cycle. The only question we could come up with is "Are you sure that you have deleted the "correct" INI file".

The DSK, CFG etc should have no bearing on Rave, you can delete them, but do not expect any change. Your last sentence concerns me a bit. Delphi 5 was extremely stable for me (I no longer have it loaded) and I do not recall any problems with the D5 IDE having problems loading up. I hate re-installing software, but it might be wise to uninstall Delphi etc and load up everything "clean".

The last thing would be to remind you to look at the link in the prior message. It lists many things that apply to new users. For instance, we have a RaveDemo, there are articles and tutorials available on the Borland web site etc. I would recommend becoming familiar with those before diving into the deep end of the pool.

The problem I had with D5 occurred in the past on my home machine but
has not occurred lately. On occasion, the IDE would not start up
properly, showing only a form. I was always able to correct it by
deleting the .DSK file and restarting. I think it was caused by Delphi
shutting down improperly. I believe that problem may have gone away on
my home machine because I upgraded my system and reinstalled the O/S
(Windows 2000, SP4). It does not happen with my office setup. Anyway,
my problem is with Rave on D7 on my office machine.

Since your reply, I have unistalled Rave completely (including manually
deleting the dclrave70.bpl file) and reinstalled version 5.0.8. The
report tab is STILL gone when I started up the Rave editor (note: I have
D5 running at the same time). I can send you a screen shot if you would
like to see what it looks like. I don't know what else to do short of
reinstalling D7 again. My Delphi 7.1 (Professional) install is pretty
standard and I have the following additional component sets installed:
Asta, Halcyon, XQuery, Quick Reports 4.06, Raize 2.52, and Jedi 3.0.
Delphi 5 (Pro), Delphi 2005 Personal, and MS Visual Studio 2003 (with
..NET 1.1) are the other other major dev. systems installed on this
machine. The system is an AMD clone with 1 GB of RAM running W2000 SP4
with all patches applied. Is there anything in the Registry that needs
to be changed?

Thanks,
Mark J. Wallin
