..NET 2.0 for Delphi Programmers is finally in print, four months after
I finished it, and four years after I started it!

544 pages, hardcover. Complete TOC and sample chapter at
<http://www.midnightbeach.com/.net>.

If you'd like a review copy, please send me your name, mailing
address, and a pointer to a blog and/or some existing reviews. (Yes, I
need a pointer, even if I recognize your name - I'll forward these to
Apress PR, and they do want to mail out review copies, not free
copies.)

Depends on the deal he received. The time I did a section of a book,
I got a flat rate, pretty much non-negotiable. I know the book ended
up not selling well. I would guess between me and the other authors
as a whole, we wouldn't have even seen $1 a copy as a whole.

It wasn't really all that surprising though in the end.

$59.99 for a paperback under 600 pages; isn't it a little excessive?

1) It is hardcover, not paperback. Amazon is just plain wrong, there.
I've sent in a correction, but they're notoriously bad about that.

If the book is hardcover then the price is ok, still a little bit on
the high side to my personal liking, but not excessive.

Thanks for clarifying.

Even in my two-volume history book[s], which were "self-published,"
the publisher (iUniverse) assigned each of them a price without any
input from me at all ($36.95 for Vol. I, $32.95 for Vol. II). Vol. I
is about 700 pages, Vol. II is about 500 pages.

Thats the kind of thing that really puts me off trying to get stuff
published, Im not exactly litarary as Im dyslexic and dont do grammer.
But, I have a tutorial which I intend to sell, Im guessing if I PDF it
and put links to paypay and on payment they get a link and stuff to
download :)

That was unnecessary...not to mention ill-informed.

At least we are having a discussion.

What was ill informed, me pointing out Amazon's error?

On the other hand, having to look up relevant source code on a computer
instead of reading from a book kind of defeats the purpose, why not have a
pdf then? If I'm reading a programming book, I'd rather have the
"fillings"
than not, especially since I don't usually read in front of my computer.
If
code is included, I can always skip reading them if I don't want to, so
besides weight, there's no disadvantage to including code and a definite
advantage.

If I understand correctly, he do use some small amount of code, but only
where it is indeed needed. Using too mutch words and sourcecode to explain
simple things are a waste of space. If you want more information about the
book, talk to Hallvard. He's read it. I have read the free chapters, and are
waiting for the book to arrive by mail.

Just a quick comment.. I hate big books with fluff.

You mean stuffing, they are stuffed, lots of void filled with lots of
jadajada? If, then I wholeheartedly agree.

Some computer magazines suffer a lot from this IMO, instead if getting
to the point, a story is told where the crook is revealed first on the
last page, in the last chapter.

With the Internet, and weblogs, this has changed, hasn't it? Become
better, right? If the blogger doesn't get to the point rather soon, the
reader falls off the wagon and goes elsewhere.

I don't have a blog, so I don't qualify for a review copy, but I plan
to buy this book on the strength of Hallvard's recommendation. The
quotes from Chuck and Danny don't hurt your case, either.

Thanks.

Liz,

I came across this site a couple of weeks ago. You might find this a
more viable alternative in publishing your tutorial. The link is:

That's interesting. They have a book on Borland ECO listed:

http://www.lulu.com/content/311556

"More than 50 examples will give you a detailed view on ECO programming. The
source code of the examples is freely available at www.ecospace.de".

I actually wish author to receive more money.
As a Delphi enthusiast, I am concerned about how well will the book sell.

I think the book would sell better if it was just $10 less.

It's a yes or no question, if you will.

Do you think that $59.99 is a little excessive for a paperback under 600
pages? Or do you not understand the question?

It sounds a reasonable price to me. Depends on the contents really.
