|
|
I am on location. I have limited access to resourses from the hotel. My
client is undergoing a deisaster recovery drill.
We have full backups of the database. The simulation is that the computer
is totally destroyed and the client has to reconstruct a databse server from
scratch. He knows how to re-install the SQL 2005 workstation. But when he
attempt to restore the backup, it wants a database to hang it onto. I don't
understand! Is it necessary for same database to exist when doing a restore?
I am quite sure that I have been given a backup before and was able to
simple restore to my server and go from there. Yet each time we tried, it
asked what database to retore the database to. Can someone hepl? Am I
setting the backup settings wrong?
TIA

It should not ask for existing database to restore another one. However
manager asks to enter which database to restore into - you (or your client)
should enter new database name, one that does not exist yet on server. Also
in Options tab you may need to enter new filenames (if filenames will be the
same, leave them as is).
