Well, you could. But then his D2006 would legally become yours!

No it wouldn't. All that would happen is the D2006 license is unusable by the
purchaser. The D2006 license would not transfer with the D5 license.

Well that too!

My comment was somewhat said in jest. But usability aside, what would a legally
happen? Either a court would null the D5 sale or say that everything went with it.

No it would be very simple. The person who bought the D5 original license is
free to use D5. The person who sole the D5 original license can no longer use
D5 as they are not licensed to use it and they are no longer allowed to use
D2006 as they are no longer licensed to use it. The D2006 license is only valid
as long as you own a qualifying D5 license. The two together create a new
single license for both D5 and D2006. If you sell the D2006 then you can still
use D5, if you sell D5 you can no longer use both as you no longer own a
qualifying product. You must maintain ownership of the qualifying license.

Then theres something wrong with your AD account which is likely
preventing it, as SP2 deffinately should fix any of that. Im guessing
there is a GPO which is preventing something from occuring. You could
use some of the sysinternal stuff to monitor and see exactly what fails.

I don't know how to monitor the sysinternal stuff. Please, can you give me
some details?
