Hi Jack,

You can try TmxProtector, it's free,

Some time ago I've avaluated some libraries for application protection. One
of them has been SerialShield which I can not recommend. It took me not more
than 10 Minutes to bypass their protection.
As I've evaluated those libraries for .NET I can not give a good
recommondation but look around and take some time to really test each of the
recommended libraries. And before searching, try to define what functions
shall be supported: floating licenses, locking licenses to hardware etc etc.

if you invest money, www.oreans.com and see WinLicense
Check the what's new page to see how often the software is updated.
It looks like its the most up-to-date and alive project around.

Hello Bob D,

Themida/WinLicense it's seem good on paper but in reality it's different, I
got a lot of troubles and I'll not recommend at all :

- Sometime application quit silently after launching
- Many report about random crashs on some machines (impossible to debug)
- WinLicense Trial reset was possible
- Themida protection is broken using this unpacker available (unThemida
v1.0)
http://azmoaore.wordpress.com/2007/05/02/unthemida10-unpacker-for-themida/

Finally WinLicense use Themida protection can be removed in few minutes via
unpacker.

I'm sorry but executable protector like ExeCryptor orTthemida is not
recommended, turn application unstable and finally you lose customer, I
prefer to disabled some features in my application demo and use VCL or API
licensing control instead.

Hi Stefan,

Don't blame Ionworx solutions, because all protections can be reset in few
seconds!

Please show here :
http://www.delphipages.com/threads/thread.cfm?ID=178588&G=178550

You can find AsProtect, Armadillo, ExeCryptor, WinLicense and Xheo Licensing
(.NET)

So I'm curious which solution you choose finally after your evaluation?

I did use SerialShield in the pass and I have no complain, I just have to
admit that I use it with an online activation schema.

Digital River recently bought Armadillo (one of the better known
software protection packages). They renamed it SoftwarePassport. You
can buy it (several hundred dollars) or you can get it free when you
sign up with any of the Digital River distribution sites (and there
seems to be a lot of them).

I'm just moving over to SoftwarePassport, so I don't have a definitive
review of it yet, but so far I like the marketing features.

For example, you can sign up with RegNow (http://tinyurl.com/yvm4q8) and
get SoftwarePassport for free, even if you don't use RegNow for
distribution.

Hope this helps,

I don't use the marketing features, but Armadillo Basic is solid. I have
zero customer trouble, including those running Vista and 64 bit Win. Plus I
can actually understand the GUI operation and help files - gasp!

It is this kind of trouble free operation which makes the difference for me,
more than which protection is most uncrackable.

I was hoping to read a little more about software passport but it seems
www.softwarepassport.com is down - as regnow.com didnt seem to have
much info on it.

Hello Bob D,

Maybe you don't know but some user can create keygen for your application if
you used WinLicense!

Oreans use WinLicense in their products (Themida, CodeVirtualizer) and
keygen is available !

For Themida : http://forum.exetools.com/showthread.php?t=10575
For CodeVirtualizer : http://www.exetools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10732

Now explain me how I can trust on Oreans products if he can't protect
himself from keygen !? it's stupid!

Some developer (using WinLicense) report many troubles, e.g : Customer lose
data (HDD crash) due at WinLicense wrote some information on HDD sector!

Trial protection is very unstable! I'm sorry but I prefer stability before
security!

I remember some version of Themida using driver (Oreans.sys), see final-user
report :
http://www.proz.com/topic/43530
http://forums.taleworlds.net/index.php?topic=5520.0

Read this and you'll see all Exe protector is not good :
http://www.tuts4you.com/download.php?list.11

You can use Exe protector as simple protection layer but not more...

I've never seen softwarepassport.com up. I still go to the old Silicon
Realms site (original makers of Armadillo) and it works fine. Try
www.siliconrealms.com.

In the SoftwarePassport version I just got there is a "Classic" version
that emulates the older Armadillo Basic. I would suspect that you'll be
pushed in the direction of the new interface eventually, but it does
ship with the "Classic" version.
