Repost. Have not seen the original posted.

When we try to login/connect to our AppServer (a Win98 PC), it results in a
DNS lookup on our dial-up router, which dials up our ISP, incurring call
charges
(this is the UK) and takes ages before the server responds. Also we have to
pay for each connect and time connected. The only way to get round this is
to disable DNS in TCP/IP Properties and reboot the server PC.

We are using a TSocketConnection and Borland Socket Server is running on the
server PC.

Delphi 6, sp2.

Is there any way round this.

That may be a well known bug in Windows 9.x systems. Check Winsock FAQ:
http://tangentsoft.net/wskfaq/intermediate.html#dunbug

If your box has latest DUN and no gethostbyname call - switch to W2K or XP.

Regards.
