I have posted several times to these Borland newsgroups, and I am
really surprised at the lack of responses. Usenet groups usually seem
like a great place to get help, and I'm being ignored here. Maybe my
questions seem dumb, but I confess to ignorance. So someone, please
answer.
I obtain Borland C++ Builder 4, and I like it, but I need support for
NT/2000. So, I obtained C++ Builder X, only to discover it lacks
support for forms and VCL components -- the "quick GUI building stuff"
that made Borland appealing in the first place. (As opposed to
Microsoft's MFC, which is a nightmare.)
So, before purchasing C++ Builder 5 or 6, I am trying to learn two
things:
Do either or both these products support forms and VCL, with easy
drag-and-drop form building like BCBuilder 4?
Are they written or not written in Java? I don't want a Java-based
IDE, because Java is so slow.
Again, forgive my ignorance, but please be nice enough to help out, so
I don't waste more money.
Thanks,
CJ

Both BCB5 and BCB6 are a native exe's (not java) and have the Design
Tools (i.e. support VCL) you're looking for. It sounds like BCB6 is
"right" for you.
If you are still not sure, order the "trial" version and try it out.
I don't blame you for begin cautious. Must everyone was shocked and
disappointed in CBX. It was nothing like expected. Personally, I think
you should ask Borland to take it back in exchange for BCB6.
