Does anyone know if TXMLDocument handles special symbols?

I try using TXMLDocument to generate XML with TClientDataSet in my
application. When transforming some field and their values into xml
attributes, the special symbols ( e.g. & ) are not encoded into other
strings (e.g & ).

Does it mean the encode and decode function should be done by self?
Thanks in advance!
