Let me start a speculation.
What if Borlanders are not going to give us an Open Letter, but a new
C++ product as a surprise?
Wouldn't that be good Smile ?
Who knows, something may be baking right at this very minute. There
are some things that make me think that it could be actually the case.

Well there is someone on my team going to BorCon with that hope ( not
hope as in based on anything, just blind hope ) and he'll be equipped
with a PO and if he doesn't come back with it or atleast an order for
it, it's going to be a sad day for him. I'm indifferent.. :)

cheers,

tim

I'm not afraid to admit I've always hated and never completely
understood the C preprocessor. Let's do away with it OK? Bjarne agrees!!

You can write blank PO's for an unknown amount? Amazing!

Your team member may want to double-check that PO's are accepted -
I seem to recall they haven't been the last few times.

Well it's not a blank PO, it has a limit and unless the new product is
more than $2000 a copy he'll be ok.. Smile We need 3..

Also, he is like Borland #1 Fan ( I think he has one of those giant foam
fingers with "I Love Borland" on it ) and he seems to think POs are so.. :)

cheers,

tim

Well, well, well guys, next thing you know - you will ask for it to
include a C++ compile ;-)

Well... yes... but....

Unfortunately I think Borland have lost a lot of credibility in the C++
arena.

The lack of information, the lack of direction, apparent internal squabbling
and totally disregarding their *long* time customers.

So yes, it would be nice but those who have been forced to seek brighter
horizons will not return therefore further reducing the BCB client base
further and making the products long term future even more precarious.

I can hardly believe I'm saying this, I'm an optimist by nature but realism
seems to have swept in!

Just my 2 cents worth...

Martin.

We are BTP partners and we have information about future Borland plans
regarding different products. I can't comment on this but you can
guess from
my answer ;)

I don't have any real information to contradict you, but I wouldn't
hold my breath for this...

Regarding the Open Letter, I believe there is still work progressing on
this. I believe the real problem is that Borland have said so little
for so long, and put so much pressure on what the Open Letter must say,
that it really is almost as much work to write that letter now as it is
to implement the product!

This could be the first letter in history to go through a formal QA
procedure, regression testing and all...

OK, maybe not quite that far, but the problem is the pressure for what
the Open Letter has to say is now a real problem in getting the news
out at all, and the longer it waits the more pressure, so the bigger
the problem.

I have settled back for the traditional Borland schedule of "it will
ship when it is ready" and there's not a lot we can do to bring it
forwards.

However BorCon is in just over a month, and I would be surprised if
that could pass without any news of ongoing C++ work, and some kind of
product direction.
