I'm looking for a simple stand alone tool OR something that can be
incorporated into a D7 project. It simply needs to allow the end user the
ability to perform backups, restores, shrinking, detach, attach, change job
schedules, etc. Just for doing basic SQL 2000 db maintenance. Can anyone
recommend anything?
Thanks,

This may be a more comprehensive stand alone tool than you need, but
EMS SQL Manager for SQL Server is a nice product:
http://sqlmanager.net/en/products/mssql/manager
Free trial available.
They have a "Lite" version that is 100% free, but I'm not sure it
allows you to do the admin type tasks you describe. Can't hurt to give
it a try though.

I have used with success for all the above the following
http://www.asql.biz/en/DbaMgr.aspx
It is a standard tool on our MSDE 2000 based product

Thanks you all for the info. I actually am using MSDE Mgr on one of my
customer's machines already. I do like it for my purposes and it's very
inexpensive but it opens a lot up to the end user who has little or no
computer skills. I tried out DbaMgr2k and like it also. It's free which is
nice but it's also pretty simple. I think it would be easy for an end user
to do some db maintenance (with instructions from me) and not get
overwhelmed with what all is in there. THat's mostly what I'm trying to
avoid. The simpler the better.
