|
|
After D2005 was released, and I picked up the professional SKU there was
alot of threads about the various issues with the new release including the
memory leak some have experienced, etc. Right before thanks giving someone
jumped in from borland (name escapes my memory) saying that a patch would be
coming after the Thanksgiving break. I was just wondering if any more had
been said about this? Initially I had alot of problems with D2005, but
decided to stick with D7 for development and reserve final judgement on
D2005 until after the patch. I kinda assumed that 'after thanksgiving'
would be 'before christmas' so thought id ask.
Also, borland does still have the 90 day return policy correct?
Thanks,
Dan

There will be a small patch hopefully before Xmas, but I think there's
also going to be larger SP later (just like with D and I'll wait until
then to make up my mind about upgrading from D7.
Just a guess, but I think that the installer problems with D8 SP3 are
delaying also the D2005 patch. From Danny Thorpe's blog :
"Q: How far is the work on the rollout of Update 3 for D8 proceeded.
Will there be a version this month?
A: Yes, the update 3 should be available this month. It's in private
beta test right now, and a few items in the installer have come up that
should be addressed before public release. If we release the patch with
a broken installer, that wouldn't be much fun, now would it?

Me too. I've had to shelve it until the patch turns up. Have reverted
to D7 in the meantime.

Wasn't the Variant fix for Delphi 6 a public beta? And a few other small
releases like that? No major patches have been public betas as I remember.

Sometimes I've the feeling Borland is _only_ doing public betas (but
you have to pay for it...)

1mln-th time I will name Adobe.
I can name as well a heap of other software that work like swiss clocks.
But yes there are companies that prefer to release half-baked programs,
MS, Corel, and you know who else.
