Kind of a generic broad brush question... anyway, how do you determine a base or recommended CPU, ram, etc. standard? With Vista coming out sometime in the future?... the bar has to go up a tad it seems. Just wondering what people use to determine baseline/recommended specs for the software that's out there. |

Just go for state of the art; an application that uses only 128MB on a
366MHz cpu can't be worth anything. <eg>

Just test on a very old computer. If it works, thatīs your recommended
CPU/RAM setup. Most of my software can run on Windows 95+, 32MB RAM.
But itīs hard to find Windows 95 today, so you can just test on Windows
98 and say thatīs recommended.

Not really. What does Vista has to do with putting the bar up? If you
didnīt change your compiler, didnīt change your code, didnīt change your
binary, how can Windows Vista have any effect on itīs minimum
requirements?
There is no conection between both.

Perhaps because the old Windows 95 worked fine on 32 MB RAM and could
even be coaxed to work with 16 MB, but if you try to run XP on less than
128 MB you're in for for a very bad surprise, and Vista Beta (AFAIK)
won't run on less than 256 MB, so you have to take that into account.
