|
Not sure where to ask this, but I am quitting
my job in a few weeks (30 days notice) and
while I have something lined up, I wanted to
go out on my own eventually as a systems integrator.
I was trying to figure out just how much of
what experience I need. e.g. so far I have the
following type of skills
(most everything C++ unless otherwise stated)...
1. Writing Serial Port I/O stuff
2. Writing TCP/UDP I/O stuff
3. Doing COM/DCOM stuff, writing event sinks exposing the type library
and using its functions.
4. Scripting screen scraps (old project in a serial environment) and
moving to a database.
5. Writing telnet clients and servers with knowledge of the telnet
protocol (no big deal really same as 2).
6. Creating a scripting engine (used in a serial terminal emulator I do
some years ago).
7. Being able to interpret properly written proprietary protocols and
coding for them (tough and time consuming but doable)
8. Now beginning cross platform network C coding in Windows/Free BSD
using bcc32 and cc.
9. Some experience in shell scripting C-shell in particular (Unix
experience)
10. Some experience in SQL via MySQL. Importing data and generating
queries via command line.
11. C++, HTML, XHTML, CSS, javaScript, PHP, and a little AJAX.
12. A little XML, a little SOAP and a little XSL.
13. Database development in C++ Builder.
If there is anything else I should try to learn or add to this
Please let me know any advice will be invaluable.
