|
|
Hello I am using Microsoft's SQL server
driver. The datasource is created in the odbc32 section of administrative
tools. The application uses bde components like TDataBase. The application
is running on a Windows XP machine. As the application starts up, it is
supposed to open up several queries. The result sets are not very large.
The application bombs with a non-specific message of "An error in the
application has occurred. Do you want to report this to Microsoft?". I
placed a few showmessages to trace and found the error happened as a query
was opened. I'm pretty sure the opening of the query is timing out, even if
I didn't get a clear bde error message. The application works on other
computers that are also running WindowsXP. The difference is that this one
user has trouble running ANY networked programs because they are all running
very very slow. Her workstation is about 1.5 miles from the main network
hub. The network admin says there is nothing wrong with her connection. A
typical "whose responsibility is it?" battle. Sigh. So I'm thinking that
if I increase the timeout values, it will allow the application to startup
without the error. She was having the same error happen in another
ado-based application. Increasing the timeout worked for the ADO-based
applications and she is now getting into them, although she is complaining
of the speed. For the ADO applications, I simply changed the timeout
property on the connection object and recompiled. Now I need a work-around
for setting the timeout of a bde-based application. When I go to the
configuration tab of the BDE Administration, I can drill down to
drivers/native/mssql and it does have a timeout property. But this
application cannot use the native mssql driver because there are other
compatibility issues. Rewriting the application at this time is not an
option. If you drill down to drivers/odbc/sqlserver, I don't see any
obvious timeout property.
Any help is greatly appreciated! :)
Thanks!
