Is this new Turbo C++ 2006 product equivalent to the C++ Builder component of
the BDS 2006? The module I just paid $1000 for? And Turbo goes for $400? Say it
isn't so.... please!!!! |

When you buy BDS, you get all four personalities, you didn't pay
$1000 for just C++, you paid $100 for Delphi, Delphi.NET, C# and C++.
Turbo is restricted to just one of those personalities.

I've never used Delphi or C#. How do I know they're actually here? If I remember
correctly, we purchased C++ Builder and they shipped us BDS with only C++
Builder enabled.
Thanks...

If you have BDS, you have them all. You can choose to install just
the personalities you want, I installed just two. If you didn't disable
the other personalities when you installed BDS, then you should be able
to see their projects when you choose File->New->Other. You should also
have shortcuts installed in your start menu to start it up with
individual personalities as well as one which will start it up with all
personalities.

You're right, I do have the other 3 personalities in my Start Menu. I guess I
never realized because I use a shortcut to launch BDS C++ Builder. So it looks
like I bought more than I need. Coulda saved myself $600 if Turbo C++ 2006 had
been available.... <shrug>
Thanks for the help..... btw.... any way to restrict the F1 help stuff to C++
personality only?

There is filtering in the help... look for the "Filtered by" combo
box.

At least you can remove the NET-part with
bds\Help\common\reghelp.exe -2 |

We have C++Builder 6 although we've never used it. We had trouble upgrading
our products from C++Builder 3 and after months of struggle just ran out of
time and went back to 3. We've planned on buying 2006 but never got around
to it. Would the Turbo C++2006 be a more logical upgrade path for us if we
don't need any of the other personalities?
If there is no upgrade price though, it might be just as cheap for us to get
it all. Am I hearing correctly that it's one personality out of the group?

AIUI, the upgrade from BCB3 to BDS 2006 is very close in price to
buying Turbo C++ Pro, so you get more for you money by buying the BDS
upgrade, since you get four personalities with BDS, but only one with
Turbo. There are people who only use one personality that have expressed
a preference in buying Turbo, but IMO, C++ is different when you use
third party components. IME, it is much easier to load Delphi components
using the Delphi personality and telling it to generate the C++ files,
than it is to use the C++ personality to build and install the same
components.
