Hi,
I'm just wondering if Microsoft allow developers to use their icons in our
applications? like all the ones in 'shell32.dll'
Thanks!

I saw once a page on msdn which showed some graphics taht MS had realeased
for public use, but I can't find a link to it now.

There's a special FAQ on microsoft site regarding copyrights and in
particular regarding the use of graphics. There are some things, for
which the graphics may be used. For example, use of graphics on
www.regnow.com is legitimate, while use of XP Theme files (Luna theme)
on non-XP systems is not.

In my 1999 article for the Informant on using MS Agents with Delphi, I took
a screenshot of "Peedy" the parrot and resized it to a 32X32 icon. They didn't
allow me to use THAT, so I created an icon that looked like a saltine cracker.
They OK'd that one.
Be very wary of them and their "intellectual" property issues.
I'm afraid that the little multi-colored butterfly toolbar icon in the demo app
for my new article on Hotmail with Delphi isn't going to pass, either.

Certain Microsoft tools contain a license to use these icons in your
applications. Without that license, however, you'll need explicit
permission from Microsoft.
For more information, see
http://www.microsoft.com/permission/copyrgt/cop-img.htm#Icons.

Hopefully by January. I've been having problems with the demo app but may have |
them fixed in a short time. The first 2 parts are already written and will need
some tweaking. The third part is about to be started.
