I am busy writing a database app and was wondering if it would be possible
to add some
a voice recognision component (if one is available) to the app, thus making
data capturing a bit
easier than typing on the keyboard the whole time. i am using Delphi 4 at
the moment.

Does anybody know of such a component?

Yes, you can use Microsoft Speech API (SAPI), check their website for
details ( http://www.microsoft.com/speech/download/sdk51/ ) and google the
web for examples (
http://www.google.com/search?hl=&cat=&meta=&q=delphi+sapi ).

You can probably get it working on most versions of Delphi, try this page:
