Hi all,

As most of you have probably seen it has been decided that the new
point system will be introduced. This system will award points for
FastCode maintanance. There will be two rankings, but for prize
awarding the lists will be joined by taking the sum of the scores for
each participant.

Only very few people have voted on the new point distribution yet. The
current votes are below:

K1 K2 K345 K6 K7 K8 K9 K10
Anders 100 5 20 0 0 0 50
Avatar 100 10 50 5 25 5 25 5
Dennis 100 10 100 1 1 1 15 2
Atle 100 10 20 20

(median) 100 10 50 1 1 1 22,5 5

The categories follow below. I have merged the old K3, K4 and K5 into
one new category: K345. I have also changed the wording for K6 and K7.

K1 Target Winner
K2 Target entry
K345 Create a complete B&V v 1.0
K6 Run all benchmarks for one challenge
K7 Run all validations for one challenge
K8 Adding benchmark or validation result to spreadsheet
K9 Create a library
K10 Update the website with data for one challenge

All points can be shared proportionally to esitmated effort if needed.

I think it is important to complete this vote now, since it is quite
important for our new scoring system.

Hi Community

Please wake up and vote.

Let us see some interest in the project infrastructure maintanence.

It takes only 10 sec. to post those numbers.

It amazes me to see that people like Pierre and John does not want to
participate in this voting.

Best regards

Perhaps because I do not know what will work well? Too many points for
management and it will ruin the competitive aspect. Too little, and no-one
will want to manage.

I haven't done a complete statistical analysis of the number of B&V's that
are created, how many times they are updated, how many benchmarks need to be
run, etc. Judging by the spread of the voting I would guess no-one has.

Hi Dennis,

Don't mistake not voting for apathy. I didn't vote because I'm not
sure what's the best way to go. I help with a little bit of
maintenance, but don't think I should necessarily get points. On the
other hand, other people contribute more time and I can't say that they
don't deserve them. I thought it would be better to leave the decision
to the people with more of an investment.

Hi Pierre and Bruce

OK.

But we have to do something to make progress.

Tough choice ;-)

Now you have considered the extremes then vote in the middle.

I have. I have some kind of understanding of this after having done all the
work for 3.35 years :-)

I you think we are in a mess then please vote. More votes will give a much
more reliable result, even if we did not all make statistical analysis
before voting.

I have given you all the data in previous posts.

Remember to speak up while a voting is open and the be quiet for a long
afterwards.

Hi,

Here's my vote:

K1 = 100
K2 = 10
K345 = 100 (including all benchmarks and validations)
K6 = 0
K7 = 0
K8 = 0
K9 = 50
K10 = 5

I have tried to award points relative to the effort involved, with the
exception of target winners that give a large bonus.

I reckon it is at least 10 times more effort to do a B&V than to write a
target entry for most challenges (hence 100 points vs 10). Also, I
guesstimate it is about twice as much effort to write a challenge entry than
it is to update the website (depending on how much needs to be updated of
course). Making a library is about half the work of making a B&V if I would
have to guess. Running benchmarks and validations probably warrant 1 point
on this scale, but it will take too much administration to manage all the
points IMO - so I left them at 0.

Regards,
Pierre

Hi Pierre

Proper reasoning.

I agree very much and thanks for voting :-)

Except for a few details.

Making a 1.0 B&V is much harder and time consuming that writing a
function.
Perhaps 100 times harder?

To community: We have not yet defined "making a library".

Seems we're getting somewhere now (though more votes are always
welcome).

How should we handle rounding (if it turns out it is needed)? I think
it would be most practical to round 0,5 to 0, but what about other
numbers? Bankers rounding?

Revised vote (as the categories have changed):

K1 K2 K345 K6 K7 K8 K9 K10
Anders 100 5 20 0 0 0 20 10

BTW, what are the points (if any) for second place, third place, etc. (K1 is
for a 'winner' function, and not many of us will ever get to score there)?
