|
|
I got a look at Delphi 2006... I brought along a web project that I
developed in Delphi 2005 for a customer to see what the conversion curve
would be for a typical (simple) web application. To my suprise a few of the
..NET libraries were changed, and/or moved... but these were easily resolved
and the application compiled properly... However... The big issue was that
the Crystal Reports component was in the IDE as a component, but there was
no developer design interface for the reports... The designer does not seem
to be present at all...
I searched feverishly to determine if the interface would be there (perhaps
it was the install I was using)... But I could not find anywhere that Delphi
2006 supports the simple limited version of Crystal Reports as in D2005...
My questions are:
1) Does Delphi 2006 support the Crystal Web Report component along with the
designer?
2) If not, What does Borland consider to be a native replacement for a web
reporting mechanism?
Thanks in advance.

Michael,
Fast Reports looks fine... However... I believe the license is $350... For
many of our applicaitons we offer limited reports say 1-5 per application. I
would consider this tool if we were building large scale reporting
applications, however I would prefer that Borland include a tool that would
allow reporting on the web... Crystal was limited and cludgy, but it
fulfilled a purpose and a need...
With each release of Delphi it gets more and more expensive to own... Going
from Delphi 7 to Delphi 8 was costly and usless... From 8 to 2005 was much
more effective but still cost in excess of $2100... and now from 2005 to
2006, no .NET 2.0 support and no web reporting tool... On the bright side it
does seem to load up faster... Now I have a few more seconds to go out and
buy the pieces that are missing...

Dear Stewart Basterash!
1. Try trial FastReport for free.
2. We have customers who migrated from Delphi 2 to Delphi2005 with our
report generator FR 2.*. They completely accept this functionality,
therefore they will receive shortly FR 2.56 c support D2006 without
additional payments.
3. We do not release major updating every year. Minor updating are
free-of-charge. Compare opportunities, for example, FastReport 3.0 and
FastReport 3.19 ;)
Some from ours customers do not know, what report generator goes in
standard complete Delphi.
They do not expect with fear of new version Delphi (and suddenly there
there will be other generator of reports? Or will not be?).
Our customers know, that FastReport will support new versions.

There are a number of ComponentOne reporting components includedwith |
Delphi 2006.They work fine & are royalty free. They work with winforms &
asp.net.
There is a report designer that comes with it.The onlything is that you
have to download adodb.dll & regisater in the GAC.
All components do not get installedby default. You may have to install
them manually.
A leaflet was also distibuted in the Delphi 2006 box. Please look at it
for the list of components
If you need any help please e mail me.
