I was working fine with D2006 all day. My app compiled and ran well. 3
minutes later I've got the error:

"[Pascal Error] E1026 File not found: 'PROGRAM.res'.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

LOL. I love the way old versions become perfect as soon as someone has a
problem with the latest version.

I have D6 just suddenly disappear on me several times a day, when I ask it
to run a program in debug mode. It's not consistent nor reproducible, and
nobody at Borland is fixing D6 these days anyway, so there's no reason for
me to fill out QC reports for it. It will never get fixed. (The D7 debugger
had a similar problem when I used that at a prior employer, BTW)

At least with D2006 there is a possibility of a bug getting fixed.

Yeas, but I checkout in the morning and apply changes before I go home.
Stupid I know, but it seems like Delphi somehow renamed ALL my projects in
the project group to .dpr (a space).dpr. And the whole thing is now a mess.

Delphi 7 was after all fantastic.

Interesting. I can't think of anything that any IDE could do that would make
me want to scream. Maybe that is why I am amused when I read statements like
your's. Afterall, a psychological intolerance for errors in software is kind
of antithetical to the whole process of software development.

No need for any concern there.

pmfji - Not "suddenly". D7 is, was, and always will be the most solidly
reliable Delphi ime.

Almost certainly a component issue.

And how precisely would you expect them to "fix" a "bug" that you cannot
reliably reproduce?

Just curious - did you have a favourite "toolkit" of components/IDE
extensions that you habitually installed into your IDE's, perhaps one
component suite or IDE extension that was used in both D6 and D7
projects....?

I don't. I simply deal with it and get on with my work. (I know that might
seem like a revolutionary, frightening idea here in the land of whiners and
wanna-screamers.)

D7 was okay but D5 was much better. I've had a single problem with D7 that
has caused me and continues to cause me problems. I've experienced a
problem with calculated fields (specifically, calculated fields formed by
concatenating two text fields in the dataset) where the OnCalcData event
seems to get lost, resulting in corrupted values or in values belonging to
the wrong row in the database (D7 Pro, Oracle 9i, Oracle OLEDB provider).
Code that worked perfectly in D5 or D6 suddently started producing incorrect
results when ported, without change, into D7. The workaround was simple --
don't use calculated fields and handle the concatenation in the calling
procedure. Let me stress that the code between D5/D6 and D7 was identical
but it worked in the earlier versions and did not work in D7.
