What Borland ought to do with a BCB v6.5 or v7 version

Borland ought to announce that there is going to be another version of
BCB that will include
- the Delphi v7 or later VCL,
- fixes for all the linker scaling bugs,
- fixes for the most annoying IDE and build bugs,
- and perhaps the new BCC compiler.

The BCC compiler should only be included if it is mature enough at that
point to not regress in any areas versus the existing compiler.

Then Borland ought to ask all users to submit QC reports and vote on
existing QC reports to give Borland a good idea on what are the most
important bugs to fix.

Then Borland ought to go into a beta with the new BCB with the Beta
handed out to those people who have submitted QC bugs that are to be
fixed in the beta.

Then Borland should release an incredibly solid BCB.

If Borland did this then a lot of disgruntled C++ customers would change
their attitudes toward Borland and would be a lot more inclined later on
to eventually upgrade to BCBX.

A very solid BCB would get a lot of sales in my view. Everyone who is
still at v4 or v5 and doing active development would have an incentive
to get a BCB that boosted productivity due to fewer bugs.

I'm not going to hold my breath, but I'd be one of those who would *gladly*
pay for an upgrade if that happened (I'm still at BCB5). In fact, I'd even
pay the *retail* price if Borland could do that!

Won't happen, they already said as much.

An upcoming version of CBX will include the VCL. Whether that will be VCL
v6, v7, or v8 has not been said. Hopefully, they will include at least v7.

Since CBX has a new linker, that does not apply.

CBX already includes the new compiler. Currently, it is the preview
version, but an upcoming version of CBX will include the full version.

People can already do that right now. The problem is, the voting feature of
QC sucks! You have a limited number of votes, and to place new votes you
have to remove existing votes first.

That is not how the beta program works.

Gambit,

Thanks for this info. I guess I have just missed this info else where since
I do not visit these newsgroups daily. Does anyone have an idea of time
frame? Are we looking at weeks or months?

Thanks again,

William

No, you didn't miss anything. Borland simply didn't tell anyone.
