Last December I remember asking Borland UK about a free version of
Delphi 8. I was told there should be a version out in January. Time has
passed, and it's May now, still no sign of a free Delphi 8 Personal.

I could try the Delphi 8 Architect trial but don't really need the
features it offers.

Has the Delphi 8 Personal version been ditched?

There is none. It was never planned, and I'm not sure why you were told
that it was.

I wasn't. I misunderstood - there is a trial version of Delphi 8
Architect, just no personal version. I guess because there was one
before on previous releases of Delphi I assumed there would be one for
Delphi 8.

Doesn't really matter anyway, hardly use Delphi now.

On a similar topic... I wish Borland would release a free "Delphi for
..NET" command-line compiler. That would at least put the language on a
par with C#, VB.NET, and Java. They're stunting Delphi's growth into
new markets. All they need to do is create a subset of the VCL (without
any visual controls) and that would do the trick.

Cheers,
Kevin.

They can dump the VCL, and just give me the WinForms.
That and the Delphi "classic" / VB-clone IDE.

i'd pay money for that.
