|
|
I have a few items that I'd like to see implemented in Delphi 9.
I only have D6 so maybe some of these have finally been implemented.
Save Bookmarks. I wonder, do the developers of delphi use bookmarks?
I don't think they do (unless they always are finished with them by the
end of the day and never come in the next day wanting all their
bookmarks the way they were the day before).
Ability to do multiple clipboard operations. (paste more than 1 thing).
How many times have I wanted to copy multiple items????
I hate using the mouse.
I use the classic IDE keyboard settings. I use F6 and Shift F6 all day
to go between my code units. I would love to be able to use F6 and
Shift F6 to go between forms
instead of having to hit F12 (to get to the code) (F6 or Shift F6 to
change to the unit I want) now F12 again to get to the form again.

Really, this is something that I can't get used to. I always press
ctrl-c a few times to "make sure" that something gets copied to the
clipboard. It usually screws up any multiple clipboard manager.
I never actually missed that feature. When I need to copy multiple
stuff, I add a bookmark instead (my bookmark usage is somewhat
different than yours - they're usually expendable and short term), then
return there later after I pasted what is in the clipboard.

It's probably a bit late to start asking D9 will be shown
extensively at BorCon in only a month's time, so new feature requests
are not likely to be considered now :

Nice try but how do you get that to work in Delphi 8, let alone Delphi
9? ;-)

I certainly use bookmarks while coding, and while persistent bookmarks would
be welcome - I would certainly make use of them - the majority of bookmarks
I set tend to be "session-specific" - I set them to help me with specific
work and then they're not needed anymore.

Yip... it's actually bugging me quite a bit that DevExpress hasn't
produced a Delphi 8 version. Although I don't own CodeRush I was
seriously thinking of buying it. Also, I'm using Delphi 7 only at this
stage and the "non-availability" of CodeRush (and other third party
products) factors into this to some extent- although my primary reason
is still that I just don't need .NET. I imagine that Diamondback may
re-invigorate the third party market a bit though. Obviously the jump
to .NET (and the new IDE) was quite a big jump for most third party
tools vendors to make.
Cheers,
Kevin.

It used to bug me too. But I got better!

I am fairly certain it will, but to be honest I don't find the third party
market as weak as many here seem to want us to believe in the first place.
There seems to be plenty of competition.

Some, like TMS Software, seem to be making the transition a component at a
time, thus easing the transition I would think. At the rate they are adding
..NET compatibility to their components, I just might be able to get a .NET
version of my newsreader done with a lot less porting headaches than I first
anticipated. It would be super-awesome if D9 (or D10 given how long i might
take to even get version 1.0 of my newsreader out the door) let me rcompile
my code with only a few hours of tweaking for .NET.

I use bookmarks a lot but mostly because class-completion doesn't work the
way I want it to (see below): If we have persistant bookmarks then I'd also
expect the IDE desktop to have exactly the same file open when I restart.
On CC:
If I write the method header first place it beween proc A and func B then I
want CC to put the skeleton between the implementation of proc A and func B.
If I write the method implementation first then I want the method header
place in the same relative order. ATM it tends to be:
a) Write method header
b) Down arrow to an existing header with implementation
c) CTRL+SHIFT+down to the implementation
d) CTRL+K + 1 to set bookmark
c) CTRL+SHIFT+C for CC
d) Highlight CC's generated skeleton
e) CTRL+X to cut
f) CTRL+K + 1 to jump to bookmark
g) Fiddle up and down with cursor keys
h) CTRL+V to paste
OMG! I hadn't realised there were so many operations ... still a lot less
than typing though
And the Friday afternoon wish ... auto-correct as I type, to save me from
"moudle" and "serach" and all those typos that MS Word "kindly" hides from
me :-)
The lack of any of the above won't stop me upgrading to D9 though.

Uhm, well, you don't
He said he was using Delphi 6 and I figured he can have what he wants in
that version with CodeRush.
Perhaps Castalia can provide that stuff in D8/D9. I don't know if it does
though.

In Delphi8 there's code snippets. You can drag selected code to the tool
palette. From the tool palette you can drag it back to the editor.
Not exactly the same, but close.

I think the code snippets idea is much more useful. I hate the whole
multiple items on the clipboard concept. It drives me nuts when I'm
using Word etc. and I always turn it off. Of course, each to their own
and I understand why some people might like and use it. :-)
Cheers,
Kevin.

I hate any screwing around with the clipboard. It drove me crazy when
I tried CodeRush, and I don't like it in Outlook, either. The
clipboard ain't broke.

I agree; and how about project-wide bookmarks? If I press Ctrl+Shift+1 in
unit1 and Ctrl+Shift+2 in unit2, Ctrl+1 and Ctrl+2 should switch between the
two units as well...
