Where'd the free stuff go?

Hi,

I've been away from Delphi for a bit and thought I'd get back into it.

I picked up D7 and started working on one of my old projects.

Many of the shareware/freeware components wouldn't work in D7 which was
no surprise.

But when I went looking for updates I found that none of them are
available for D6 or D7. Further, many of the old sites I used to
frequent for components are gone or seem to be out of date (Delphi
pages, Delphi 32, Delphi Super page, Delphi Deli and more).

Delphi32 is still alive but I found very little freeware for D6 or D7.

So what's happening. Is the Delphi community shrinking? Has interest
waned? Or have new sites taken the place of the old ones?

Can someone point me to a good repository for freeware components?

What happened to RXLib? Is it dead?

Thanks for your help,

Frank

You *did* get them in source-code form, didn't you? I won't use
components I don't have the source for. Most of the time, the changes
necessary to make a component work with a new version of Delphi are
trivial, if there are any changes at all. (Delphi 8, as I understand it,
is an exception.)

Pay particular attention to the fourth item, TWM's home page.

In case it's not clear from the link Rob gave, RxLib is now a
part of the JEDI VCL.

Unless there's been a recent change I don't know of, Torry's has
been notorious for not updating for ages -- it does have a large
library, though. I sometimes find myself dowloading the version
of a component from Torry's or DSP to see whether it will do what
I want, then finding the author's own website to get the most
recent version.

Besides JVCL, there are about a thousand at least somewhat Delphi-related
projects on www.sourceforge.net -- among them, most of the TurboPower
components (Orpheus, FlashFiler, etc.) which up until the end of 2002
were some of the best selling commercial components.

Another place to check is http://codecentral.borland.com/

If you're looking for a particular component, usually the best place
to ask is borland.public.thirdpartytools.general

You will find a selection of currently active sites at
http://www.hotkey.net.au/~hambar/habit/delflink.htm/#Downloads

I keep a close watch on all the sites listed and update the page at
the end of the month,

No, just become a Jedi. Check my site for the new link.
