Few weeks (months) back there were talks about a new very very nice remote
desktop component, but so far no announcements have been made.
Anyone knows anything about it?
Kind regards,
Cristian Nicola

Check out Ultra VNC (search on Google) - it is a Sorce Forge project - |
and it is great!! there is a Single Click (SC) add on - that is a must!

It is nice, but it can't integrate into Delphi applications.
Where is Perkilis?

Yes, I do. :)
Sorry it taking a while, but, well, it's not quite ready yet. Or rather,
there is an existing version already
(http://acclimate.com/support_bridge.htm) but there are some major
changes both technical and commercial that are under way, and which I
want to complete before selling it.
The current version is not a component set, and, while the Delphi source
_is_ available, it's rather expensive. Furthermore, it works by binary
TCP/IP, and therefore requires ports to be opened in any firewall/router
that's in the way (which can sometimes be quite tedious).
The new version works exclusively by standard HTTP, and therefore will
go through all firewalls or even proxies. And it shall be sold either as
a ready-to-use application, or as a set of developer components. The
pricing and commercialisation strategies are also being reviewed.
I am aiming to have the first version ready by September. I can't set a
precise deadline yet, but I'll announce something as soon as I can.
Regards,
Jonathan Neve.

Jonathan,
How is the speed going over http like that?
Will it still be as fast as or pretty close to the speed Remote Office had?
Looks like you will beat the other product to market.

Well, that's hard to say, because I haven't been able to do any serious
performance testing yet. I sure _hope_ it's at least as fast, and I'll
definitly do everything within my power to make it as fast as possible.
Of course, due to the nature of HTTP, it does seem _possible_ that it
would be slightly slower (since HTTP isn't binary), but OTOH, I expect
this to be negligeable since the main bottleneck is of course the size
of the images themselves, and that's not going to change. Anyway, only
time will tell exactly how fast it will be, I guess. But I'll definitly
make sure I optimize it in every possible way!

Hope so! We have a large (potential) project that will depend on the
completion of the remote desktop component set, so we'll be working on
it quite a lot during our vacations this summer. ;)

Jonathan Neve.
