Does anyone know how to fix the access violation in the bordbk61.dll file that you receive while debugging any application after loading the Windows XP SP2 RC-1?

Thanks in advance for help!

Has this not been reported to Borland already? I have

If your state built a new highway whose turns were so tight that cars
could not use it would you report the fact to Honda or to the people
who built the highway?

Finding incompatibilities is why Microsoft let you have the beta test
software and what you implicitly agreed to do in accepting the
software. They want to hear about what it does wrong, especially
about incompatibilities with programs that work correctly when run
under previous versions.

I sent it to Microsoft first, I was only trying to find out if anyone( Borland or other users) had experienced the problem and found a solution to it.

James,

Does this happen when debugging any application? What are the specific
steps to reproduce it?

I have a XP machine with SP1 installed, and wasn't aware that there was a
SP2 available. If you'd like, I can give this a try on my machine and see
what happens. I can't say that I can help you solve the problem (frankly I
most likely cannot), but I can at least try to verify it and make note of
it.

It is happening on any application that I debug. All that I have to do is set a breakpoint and run the app and I get an access violation in bordbk61.dll everytime. I loaded the Windows XP SP2 RC-1 (Release Candidate). I'm trying to make sure that my clients will not have problems when they load the official SP2.

James,

Assuming that the SP2 RC-1 is publicly accessible and removable from my
system (I assume it must be), I'll give this a try later in the day and let
you know what happens.

Keep in mind that it is written in the MS web site, RC of service packs
"must not be installed in production machines".

Why are you so sure that it is Microsoft bug? Does Boland really want to
wait for RC2 to find out the answer to this question?
And even if it is Microsoft problem don't you think that the fix is MORE
IMPORTANT for Borland than to Microsoft?

Hello,

My newsreader is no longer displaying the earlier posts in this thread, but
James, if you are still reading this, I finally got a chance to try applying
SP2 RC-1 to my Windows XP system. I'm afraid I wasn't able to reproduce the
problem. Granted, I only tested with a very simple application. Here's
what I did.

I dropped a button onto the form, and in the button's OnClick event handler,
I have a couple of AnsiString variables and ShowMessage calls. I then place
breakpoints on those ShowMessage calls and build and run the application.
When I hit the breakpoints, I am able to inspect, evaluate, and place
watches upon my AnsiString variables normally. I am then able to execute
the ShowMessage calls successfully. In this simple test, I didn't see the
debugger do anything unusual.

If you have a similarly simple test that reproduces the problem that you can
send me, then please feel free to send it to me via a direct e-mail. I
can't promise any assistance, but I can try it on my system and see if the
error occurs. That'll give us a better idea of whether the problem lies
with your C++Builder 6 install or your system.

Again, from my exceedingly simple test, I didn't see anything odd.

For reference, my system is running Windows XP with SP1 and SP2 RC-1
installed, and C++Builder 6 Enterprise with Update #4 applied.

It is very strange. I have tried to run Delphi 6 UP2 and Delphi 7 and
both have problems with Windows XP SP2 RC-1. Both cause Access
Violation in the debugger (in BORdbk70.dll in Delphi 7 and in
bordbk61.dll in Delphi 6). I have also VS.NET 2003 installed. It is
very strange that your Delphi runs with XP SP2 RC1.

I know lot of people having the same problem and I don't know anybody
found any solution.

Borland might want to look at the application compatibility newsgroup on the windows xp sp2 beta site. There are entried for both Delphi and C++ Builder with the same problem.

James,

Does the same simple test application I described generate an Access
Violation on your system?
