Why not use Microsoft's DHTML Edit Control?

There exists one for Delphi and is quite good. Unfortunately I don't
remember it's name, but you will save lots of time by searching for it
instead of creating your own editor.

you can use Micorosft's DHTML editor, which is a wrapper for the MSIE HTML
editor ocx - or you can use the latter directly. the former is deprecated, and
the latter is a bitch to use. check out:

there is also a native Delphi component:

have fun !

I don't want to be limited to the domain of Microsoft, in case I want to use
Kylix, in the future.
