Maybe they could do the job as a time-share position, in their spare time.

I'd be more for Danny Thorpe... I doubt he'd be interested, but he's a
natural born leader if I ever met one.

Maybe DT is an NBL, I wouldn't know (I don't know the man, though I do know
what he looks like (from past BorCons)).

I still think DI and JK's experiences at Borland probably put them in a
better position to take over the helm, though, than DT, or perhaps anybody
else either internal or (currently) external.

On behalf of both of us, no thanks.

IMO, We are far more effective at our current positions than we would
be as CEO. CEO of Borland isn't really a job I'd want.

I can understand that; nevertheless, I still think you'd (both) be good at
it. I wasn't predicting you'd WANT to do it.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I've run my own company before, and
I think I would not want to run a company larger than, at most, about
300 employees. I'd prefer running one that was 10 - 30 employees.

And, I'm still enjoying what I do at Borland, so I'm not looking for
other opportunities right now ;)

I can understand that - it pays only $1.00.

Actually, that salary was only effective for 1 year, and there were
other significant incentives at the time.

I heard it was even worse than that--it was a threat:

Work for us for $1, or we will put you in the stocks.

Wanting the job is the primary qualification for all jobs.

Not always. Conscription, for example.

But, yes: "If nominated, I will not run; if elected I will not serve."

I've used that on this group before, and we all know how I hate having
to repeat myself!

That was "stockings" (iron, I presume).

Indeed, but ask any noncom and he'll reply that the all volunteer army is
much easier to lead.
